About NLDS and LDB Container Tracking

NICDC Logistics Data Services (NLDS), formerly known as DMICDC Logistics Data Services, is a joint venture between the Government of India, represented by the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), and Japanese IT major NEC Corporation, with equal equity participation.

NLDS was established to leverage Information and Communication Technology (ICT) effectively across the Indian logistics sector, promote best practices in various processes, and enhance supply chain efficiency. Their mission is to bring visibility and transparency to the logistics environment, streamline supply chain operations, and support the government’s initiative to improve the Ease of Doing Business in India.

They aim to provide comprehensive export-import container visibility services across India, along with comparative performance metrics for all logistics container operators, enabling users to make informed decisions. Their flagship product, the Logistics Data Bank System (LDB System), integrates information from various agencies across the supply chain to offer detailed real-time information through a single window.

How LDB Courier Tracking Works

Offloading and Data Capture:

  • When a container is offloaded from a vessel, its compartment number and arrival time are recorded and provided to LDB.

Port-Out Information:

  • LDB records the port-out data, making it accessible to the end user.

Container Movement:

  • Containers are transported by trucks and trains.
  • Terminal operators may transfer containers to different yards managed by other terminal operators.

RFID Tagging and Tracking:

  • Port premises and railway siding staff perform RFID tagging tasks at the exit gates.
  • RFID readers are installed at all entry and exit gates of ICDs (Inland Container Depots), CFSs (Container Freight Stations), SEZs (Special Economic Zones), empty yards, parking plazas, and toll plazas to capture container information during transit.

Storage and Maintenance:

  • Once emptied, containers are moved to empty yards for storage and maintenance.

Export Process:

  • They de-tagged all the containers after completing their import process.
  • For export, containers are tagged at the beginning of their journey from ICDs or factories with RFID readers to track them.

Tracking via Toll Plazas:

  • They capture RFID data at toll plazas on highways and uploaded to the LDB server.

Operational Staff:

  • They have deployed staff at entry gates of port premises and railway sidings to handle tagging tasks.

Key Statistics:

  • Toll Plazas: 93
  • Containers Handled: Over 60 million
  • Integrated Check Posts: 3
  • Port Terminals Across India: 27
  • CFSs/ICDs/Empty Yards/Parking Plazas: 350+
