About Disclosure Scotland Tracking

Employers, voluntary organizations, and other relevant bodies in Scotland can use Disclosure Scotland’s services to request criminal record checks on individuals as part of their recruitment or vetting processes. This allows them to verify the criminal history of potential employees or volunteers to ensure they are suitable for the role they are applying for, particularly if the role involves working with vulnerable groups such as children or adults at risk.

Types of Disclosure

Basic disclosure

Basic disclosure is the most common type of criminal record check. It is the lowest level of disclosure and reveals any unspent convictions. Disclosure Scotland does not conduct ongoing monitoring as part of basic disclosure; instead, it only reflects information available at the time of creation.

To apply, you can complete the process online.

Standard and enhanced disclosure

Standard and enhanced disclosures are more thorough checks designed for individuals in certain professions or seeking to adopt.

  • Standard disclosure is required for roles like solicitors, accountants, or those providing care services.
  • Enhanced disclosure is necessary for roles such as assessing suitability for adoption or applying for specific gaming or lottery licenses.

To apply, you’ll receive a form from the organization you’re affiliated with. Alternatively, organizations can download the form, complete it, and email it to Disclosure Scotland.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme

The PVG scheme is designed for individuals engaged in regulated work with children and protected adults. Your employing organization may request your participation in this scheme.

Disclosure Scotland conducts ongoing monitoring of PVG members’ records, checking for any information that could impact their suitability to work with vulnerable groups.

To apply, your organization will initiate the application process online. After they complete the initial part, you’ll receive an email containing a link to the second part. You’re required to complete this section online and submit the application.
